Reduce your carbon footprint

We are all increasingly aware of the importance of our choices as companies, groups and individuals and how they affect our planet and its environment.

As manufacturers of sustainable barn wood furniture, we at Signature SGL pride ourselves on offering a unique and environmentally friendly product for our customers.

Before Signature SGL began recycling them, Quebec City’s snow fences were built solely to keep snow off roads and highways. When the fences were replaced, the boards were burned or dumped in a landfill.

Today, Signature SGL reclaims wood for exterior siding, interior design and distressed wood walls. Quebec’s intense weather conditions are ideal for producing durable and breathtaking weathered wood.

Quebec City’s climate is so intense that our lumber does not need the energy-intensive kiln-drying process. Kiln drying is used to reduce the moisture content of the wood and kill any insects living in the wood.

By skipping this process, Signature SGL barnwood becomes a carbon-negative product.

The altitude

Due to the altitude and low humidity of our high plains and mountains, the wood panels used for snow fences are perfectly dried by the sun and wind. This natural drying process bypasses the energy-consuming need for oven drying.

Because our wood never has to go into a kiln, we actually remove more CO2 from the atmosphere than Signature SGL is responsible for creating. This is known as “carbon negative”.

Even when shipped to several destinations in Quebec and Canada, our wood arrives at a negative carbon rate because it never had to be placed in a kiln. In addition to being carbon negative, SGL Signature reclaimed wood is 100% FSC® recycled and contributes to meeting MR3, MR4 and MR5 credits under LEED®.

Unlike most barn wood or reclaimed building boards, our barn wood has never been chemically treated or painted;

This means that no harmful fumes, lead paint, insects or other contaminants will enter your home or business.

Plus, you can always order more wood furniture from us in the future and know that it will be consistent in color, quality and size.
